Before you panic, Johnny Depp hasn't been mistakenly turning up to the Lone Ranger set drunk and delirious a la Captain Jack Sparrow. Instead, there's just the teeny tiny matter of him (and director Gore Verbinski and producer Jerry Bruckheimer) going several millions of pounds over budget. Umm... whoops!
Disney briefly shut down production on Johnny's new film last August, when they got worried that the budget had hit the $250 million mark. After the three main men promised they would cut the action sequences, among other things, to bring the costs down to the absolute bargain price of $215 million, Disney gave it the go ahead.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Lone Ranger is now back on track to cost it's original $250 million, though and the big bosses aren't happy. "It's out of control," says one insider of the spending, "but if you were going to bet on anyone, it would be on Gore, Johnny and Jerry."
Oh well, if he has to go on the run, he can always go and live full-time with his new adopted family, the Comanche Indian tribe. The New Mexico-based group of Indians, to which Johnny's character Tonto belongs, have formally accepted him into their tribe. How nice. Although, we have a sneaky suspicion this was just so that they could get him to sign some papers they can later auction on eBay.
We've got to wait until next summer to see the results of this budget-blowing masterpiece, but we get the feeling it will all be worth it. Mainly because it means we can stare at Armie Hammer and Mr Depp cavorting around on horses. Hurrah!
